Purpose Statement

Psi Chi is an international honor society whose purpose shall be to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Mission Statement

The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.

Subends for accomplishing above mission:

  1. Advance science and the profession of psychology
  2. Promote an educational experience consistent with the mission
  3. Promote ethical and socially responsible members and leaders
  4. Define and establish an organizational structure that promotes our mission
  5. Recognize and foster the contributions that diversity makes to the science and practice of psychology

Membership Requirements

For all students:
•    Registration for major or minor standing in psychology or for a program psychological in nature which is equivalent to such standings.
•    High standards of personal behavior.
•    Two-thirds affirmative vote of those present at a regular chapter meeting.
 
For undergraduate students:
•   Completion of at least 3 semesters or 5 quarters of the college course.
•   Completion of 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of psychology.
•   Undergraduates who are elected to Psi Chi must rank in the upper 35% of their graduating class in general scholarship*
•   They must also demonstrate superior scholarship in psychology, earning a minimum GPA in psychology courses of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in both psychology classes and in cumulative grades. Psi Chi accepts the policy of the institution regarding grades.
 
For graduate students:
•    A overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in all graduate courses, including psychology. Psi Chi accepts the policy of the institution regarding grades.
