The Tau Beta Pi Association was founded at Lehigh University in 1885 by Edward Higginson Williams, Jr., to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.

There is a one-time initiation fee of $50.00.

Tau Beta Pi is an exclusive society reserved for students and professionals who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields. Tau Beta Pi honors those who have not only shown a history of academic achievement, but a commitment to personal and professional integrity. This means that you must be in the top 1/8 of your class if you are a senior and the top 1/5 of your class if you are a junior.
