The following newsletter is sent out every week if there is information happening on campus or in the community that student organizations can benefit from. Although the announcement is sent out by the Center for Campus Life the contact for the various activities may not be in the Center for Campus Life, and will be listed in the each brief paragraph, in most cases the Center for Campus Life will not have any more information than is listed in this general email, and will direct you to the contact listed.

Raider Welcome is a series of FUN and FREE events designed to welcome new and returning students to the Texas Tech campus. Raider Welcome occurs after Residence Hall move-in and throughout the first week of classes.

Turn Tech Red!

Participate in the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day which is Friday, February 3. We encourage Student Organizations to wear something red on Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th. Next grab a camera and take a group or individual selfie and send it to Justin Hughes We will then post it to the appropriate social media accounts for Lubbock’s AHA. There are two hashtags which we will use. #GoRedWearRed and #LubbockGoRed


Go IFC GRΣΣK!

Attention Red Raiders! Are you interested in joining an IFC Fraternity? Well make sure to sign up for IFC Formal Spring Recruitment! It's only a few weeks away and gives you the opportunity to meet all the IFC organizations on campus. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about each organization and which could best fit for you. For all information about all of our Greek organizations and how to join them check out our Greek Website. 


Sibling Saturday

Sibling Saturday is held in the spring semester and is designed to bring siblings of Texas Tech students aged 8-15 to visit the Texas Tech campus. The schedule includes many events chosen to get Texas Tech students involved with their little brothers or sisters and create great memories. The date for Sibling Saturday 2017 will be February 18, 2017. Space is limited. Registration deadline is Wednesday, February 15, 2017 - while space lasts.

Interested in being a Red Raider Camp Counselor?

Are you looking for a fast-paced, fun, and exciting summer experience? If so, then join us for two weeks at Red Raider Camp. Red Raider Camp needs your help to lead incoming Red Raiders as they begin their career at Texas Tech. As a counselor you will help guide them through their transition to Texas Tech by introducing them to the culture, history, and traditions that make Texas Tech unique. Want to find out more? Join us at an info session to find out how to become a Red Raider Camp Counselor for summer 2017!

Then you'll need to attend an info session to get all the details! We have them scheduled in January and February at the following times!

  • Jan 23rd or 24th at 2:00 PM in the SUB Mesa Rm 
  • Jan 25th or 26th at 11:30 AM in the SUB Mesa Rm 
  • Jan 27th at 4:00 PM, Jan 30th at 4:00 PM, or Jan 31st at 3:30 PM in the SUB Mesa Rm

Remember clear bag policy applies to ALL ticketed Athletic events

Beginning this fall, Texas Tech Athletics implemented a new clear bag policy that provides a safer atmosphere for all fans as well as significantly speed up the entry process into all venues. Students remember that is applies to ALL ATHLETIC VENUES. Students if you are needing a clear bag you can get one for free from the Student Government Association (SGA) office. The SGA office is located in room 302 of the Student Union Building. For more information about the clear bag policy click here.


Want to Win $200?

Play in Mentor Tech Student Organization's 11th annual Cultural Knowledge Bowl for a chance to win the cash prize of $200!! The Knowledge Bowl is an event where students and/or organizations make a team of 1-4 people and compete in a Jeopardy-styled game to answer questions about different cultures around the world. The event will be on Saturday, February 25th, 2017 and each team will need to pay a registration fee of $20 to play. Upon registration, your team will be given all the possible questions and answers we may ask during the event. The deadline to register is Friday, February 3rd, so if you or your organization is interested in playing, email Deja Glover at dejahna.glover@ttu.edu *Date and prize are subject to change

'Step-Up' Peer By-Stander Presentation

Step Up is a peer to peer bystander intervention program designed to teach students when and how to intervene regarding sexual violence, bullying, hazing, and other problematic behaviors typically found in the college campus environment.

Looking for an On-Campus Job?

Parent and Family Relations, a University department, seeks a motivated and energetic Student Assistant for a part-time position beginning in spring 2016 and continuing through summer 2017 (and possibly beyond). The position will be for 15-20 hours per week. For more information about the position check our click here.

The office of LGBTQIA, is looking for a student who has knowledge of issues faced by LGBTQIA individuals. This Student Assistant position is minimum 12 hours required per week,but students may work up to 20 hours per week, depending on departmental need. Free Tutoring!

The Learning Center offers a variety of FREE services to all currently enrolled undergraduate Texas Tech students to ensure academic success: Drop-in peer tutoring in subjects such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounting, and Engineering. The Learning Center also offers individual academic planning, support, and coaching. Finally students have access to peer academic coaching that provides students with skills in test taking, time management, etc. Can make it in The Learning Center has Online tutoring Monday through Thursday from 7:30-10pm (in some subjects). They also offer presentations about our services to organizations and other departments and classes.

Pancakes and Volunteering!

The Lubbock Lion’s Club will be holding their annual Pancake Festival on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Civic Center. Once again, we are asking if your organization will be willing to assist us in this worthy cause. The 2017 – 65th Annual Lubbock Lions Club Pancake Festival is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2017, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Civic Center. We break this down into three working shifts, 1st shift - 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2nd shift - 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 3rd shift - 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will need your organization to work the 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts. Tunnel of Oppression

The Tunnel of Oppression is an immerse experience where you will encounter first-hand different forms of oppression through interactive acting, hearing monologues and multimedia presentations. Participants come in to direct contact with the following scenes of oppression: Ethnocentrism (Belief in Superiority of One's Own Culture), Bias, Privilege, LGBT Concerns, Body Image, Suicide and Cyber Bullying, Relationship Violence, Racism, Sexual Assault and Awareness, Mental Health, and Homelessness.

Would you like to volunteer to help with the Tunnel of Oppression? Signing up is easy! Volunteers need to commit to at least a 2 hour block and attend a one-hour training if applicable. We have volunteer positions in marketing, check-in table staffer, tour guides, debrief facilitators, and actors/actresses. To get signed up, visit our page at Housing's website and scroll down to volunteer opportunity or email Annette Sawadogo.


Discounted Movie Tickets!

Stars and Stripes Drive-In is offering discounted rates at the Drive-In to all groups at Texas Tech. There regular ticket prices are $8 a screen for 2 features, but for groups (20-100 people) can offer tickets at a discounted price of $6 a ticket. To set up a group rate event please contact them at (806)-744-7827. 


Wreck Hunger by Volunteering

Develop skills that can help you now and in the future while at the same time helping your TTU Community. It only requires a minimum commitment of 1 hour per week for the Fall 2016 semester (leadership positions require 2 hours per week). We are also conveniently located on campus across from the SUB. If you are interested please fill out the Volunteer Interest Form.
