2015-2016 Student Org Awards

Annually the Center for Campus Life invites all students, faculty, and staff to submit nominations for the Student Organization Awards. This event recognizes advisors and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the Texas Tech and greater Lubbock community. All registered student organizations and advisors are eligible to participate.

Awards will  recognize advisors and organizations that have shown excellence and achievement in a variety of areas that include, but, are not limited to; fulfillment of purpose, community service, membership involvement, and leadership development. 

Winners of the 2015-2016 Student Org Awards will be announced at Arbor Day on April 29, 2016.

All applications/nominations (including any supporting materials) are due on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 12:00 PM/Noon, but we will gladly accept nominations starting February 29, 2016 until the deadline. No applications/nominations will be accepted after the deadline. No Exceptions!

Student Organization of the Year

This award recognizes the paramount achievement of a registered student organization over the year that causes the organization to stand out as compared to other organizations. The criteria in review are reflective of the organization's ability to meet their goals and objectives as stated in their current constitution. The awarded organization will have demonstrated a high level of achievement in many areas, including membership involvement, organization development, leadership training and opportunity, active participation in TTU campus activity and community service.

To complete the online nomination for this award, the nominator will need:

  • To provide a Personal Statement as to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria
  • A letter of support from another individual who can speak to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria (It is strongly recommended that this letter is from the nominated Student Organization's Faculty/Staff Advisor)
  • 3 photos of the nominated student org in action

The nominator also has the option to include:

  • One additional letter of support
  • 2 other items of supporting materials (certificates, honors, achievements, event flyers, etc.)


New Student Organization of the Year

This award recognizes outstanding achievement of a newer student organization within the past year. This organization must have been registered at TTU for three years or less. The review criteria will include the organization’s ability to meet the goals and objectives stated in the constitution. The organization should demonstrate a high level of achievement in one or more areas, such as membership involvement, organization development, leadership training and opportunity for members, shown active participation in TTU campus activities and community service.

To complete the online nomination for this award, the nominator will need:

  • To provide a Personal Statement as to how the student organization meets the award criteria
  • A letter of support from another individual who can speak to how the student organization meets the award criteria (It is strongly recommended that this letter is from the nominated Student Organization's Faculty/Staff Advisor)
  • 3 photos of the nominated student org in action

The nominator also has the option to include:

  • One additional letter of support
  • 2 other items of supporting materials (certificates, honors, achievements, event flyers, etc.)


Most Improved Student Organization of the Year

This award recognizes the dedication of a student organization showing improvement in activities that meet their goals and objectives as stated in the organization's purpose.  Additional criteria for this award include activities that have caused change and improvement for the organization, growth in the organization membership, increased member involvement and development, improved programs, created opportunity for member participation, and collaboration with other campus organizations or events.

To complete the online nomination for this award, the nominator will need:

  • To provide a Personal Statement as to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria
  • A letter of support from another individual who can speak to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria (It is strongly recommended that this letter is from the nominated Student Organization's Faculty/Staff Advisor)
  • 3 photos of the nominated student org in action

The nominator also has the option to include:

  • One additional letter of support
  • 2 other items of supporting materials (certificates, honors, achievements, event flyers, etc.)


Outstanding Organization Advisor of the Year

This award recognizes the advisor whose ability to support, educate, and encourage the student organization goes above and beyond the expected norm.  This advisor has demonstrated remarkable dedication to, and support of the organization. This advisor's role and service to the organization will also be taken into consideration.

Nominations for this category must come from a member of the student organization that the nominee advises.

To complete the online nomination for this award, the nominator will need:

  • To provide a Personal Statement as to how the nominated Student Organization Advisor meets the award criteria
  • A letter of support from another individual who can speak to how the nominated Student Organization Advisor meets the award criteria (It is strongly recommended that this letter is from a current officer of the Student Organization the nominated Advisor advises)
  • 2 pictures of the nominee in action

The nominator also has the option to include:

  • One additional letter of support
  • 3 other items of supporting materials (certificates, honors, achievements, event flyers, etc.)


Best Example of Teamwork by a Student Organization

This award recognizes the student organization that most embodied the elements of teamwork, collaboration, and quality programming that benefit the Texas Tech University Community (either throughout the year or through a single successful program). This award also recognizes that the recipient worked effectively with other student organizations, University departments, and/or the greater Lubbock community. All applicants in this category should note this is for on-campus programming.​

To complete the online nomination for this award, the nominator will need:

  • To provide a Personal Statement as to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria
  • A letter of support from another individual/organization who can speak to how the nominated student organization met the award criteria. 
  • 3 photos of the nominated student organization(s) in action

The nominator also has the option to include:

  • One additional letter of support
  • 2 other items of supporting materials (certificates, honors, achievements, event flyers, etc.)


Outstanding Contribution to the Greater Community

This award recognizes a student organization that made a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community through service. Addressed an existing problem, was committed to working with and for others, and successfully inspired and motivated others to act. All applicants in this category should note this is for off-campus/community programming.

To complete the online nomination for this award, the nominator will need:

  • To provide a Personal Statement as to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria
  • A letter of support from another individual who can speak to how the nominated student organization meets the award criteria (It is strongly recommended that this letter is from an individual (not a member of the organization or advisor) who collaborated with or was positively impacted by this organization's contribution)
  • 3 photos of the nominated student organization in action

The nominator also has the option to include:

  • One additional letter of support
  • 2 other items of supporting materials (certificates, honors, achievements, event flyers, etc.)
