The following newsletter is sent out every week if there is information happening on campus or in the community that student organizations can benefit from. Although the announcement is sent out by the Center for Campus Life the contact for the various activities may not be in the Center for Campus Life, and will be listed in the each brief paragraph, in most cases the Center for Campus Life will not have any more information than is listed in this general email, and will direct you to the contact listed.

The 2015-2016 Student Org Awards Open on MONDAY!

Show-off the AMAZING things your organization and advisor have done this academic year by applying for the 2015-2016 Student Organization Awards! The winners of the 2015-2016 Student Organization Awards will be announced at Arbor Day on April 29th.

Annually, the Center for Campus Life invites all students, faculty, and staff to submit nominations for the Student Organization Awards. This event recognizes advisors and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the Texas Tech and greater Lubbock community. All registered student organizations and advisors are eligible to participate.

This year's awards include:
- Student Organization of the Year
- New Student Organization of the Year
- Most Improved Student Organization of the Year
- Outstanding Organization Advisor of the Year
- Best Example of Teamwork by a Student Organization
- Outstanding Contribution to the Greater Community

Student Organizations is hosting a Student Leadership Series on March 8th from 6-7PM in the SUB Mesa Room. Come learn more about motivating your organization members! Your student organization has thirds. Top-third leaders wrap their personal identity in your group, exert the most influence on its actions, and make your group their top priority.  Middle-third members care about your organization and the relationships they have there, but it’s one of several competing priorities.  Bottom-third members are disengaged, potentially causing drama, or checked out.  Unfortunately, most top-third leaders spend the majority of their time fighting the bottom-third – trying to make them attend events, care more deeply, and contribute more.

Current presentations include Alcohol/Drug Education, Healthy Relationships, Sexual Health, Mental Health, and Bystander Intervention. Red to Black Peer Financial Coaching is here to answer your money questions. We offer presentations on topics such as creating spending plans, establishing and building credit, maximizing financial aid, and examining after college expenses. Our most popular presentation is Money Habitudes, which explores habits and attitudes surrounding money through an interactive card game. All Majors Job Fair - Put Your Degree to Work

Join Student Union & Activities for one of Tech's greatest traditions- Arbor Day!

Arbor Day will be on Friday, April 29, 2016.  Applications will be available on Monday, February 22!

Take part in one of Texas Tech's annual events to bring the community together in celebration of keeping campus beautiful.  Registered student organizations, faculty, and staff are invited to come and celebrate Arbor Day, on April 29, in Memorial Circle.

Student Organizations requesting a spot at Arbor Day must be registered and in good standing with the Center for Campus Life. 

Campus departments may also request a planting space.

Symposium on Student Success & Retention


On February 29-March 1, representatives of Texas Tech's leadership, faculty, enrollment, academic affairs, and student affairs teams will join together in Lubbock as we engage these challenging topics and hear from around the region.  Our facilitators, panelists, and presenters will help us consider our own opportunities as we discuss the challenges and the variety of current innovative approaches happening in their respective domains and institutions.  As one particular highlight, we are pleased to announce Dr. Raymund Paredes, our state’s Commissioner of Higher Education, has agreed to bring his remarks on these issues and opportunities in an address to the symposium participants. 

We hope you will attend and lead a team of participants from your institutions.  Ideally you will bring a diverse team, with members ranging from senior executives to data analysts to front-line faculty, advisors, … and even student leaders.

Raider Welcome is an opportunity for your student organization to introduce your services or activities to ALL Texas Tech students and gives your members an opportunity to interact with our new first-year and transfer students. And its FREE to participate! Raider Welcome is a two-week series of FUN and FREE events and occurs the week before classes begin and throughout the first week of classes.

Request a 'Step-Up' Peer By-Stander Presentation to Your Department or Student Organization

Step Up is a peer to peer bystander intervention program designed to teach students when and how to intervene regarding sexual violence, bullying, hazing, and other problematic behaviors typically found in the college campus environment. Texas Tech University is providing Step Up presentations that can be tailored to specific topics to fit your audience. Step-Up presentations can be done for classrooms, organizations, and on campus interest groups.

Volunteer Center of Lubbock

The Volunteer Center of Lubbock can be a great resource for student organizations. We work with nearly 100 nonprofits in the Lubbock community and connect volunteers with the many needs of our partners. As a student organization, we can help you plan a project for your group or help members their best volunteer fit. We can do this by visiting one-on-one with you or coming to speak at one of your meetings. We feel it is so important to engage students with the community they live in, not to mention they make for enthusiastic, passionate and energetic volunteers! Please contact Rachel Flores at if you would like someone from the Volunteer Center to come and speak at your meetings or if you want to know how to get involved.

Spring Advisor EDU Workshops

The Advisor EDU Workshops are brief, one-hour trainings that will cover a specific topic as it relates to your role as a student org advisor. All topics are tentative and could slightly change. Each workshop is offered at two different times and dates
