Get Your Guns Up For....Mortar Board & Saddle Tramps!

Sep 11, 2015 by Kristen Mills

Each week, Student Involvement will recognize the amazing things our Student Organizations are doing at Texas Tech and in the greater community.

This week we would like to recognize Texas Tech Mortar Board and Saddle Tramps.

Texas Tech's Mortarboard Chapter Receives National Gold Torch Award

Texas Tech University’s Mortar Board chapter recently was awarded the Gold Torch Award at the 2015 Mortar Board National Conference. Texas Tech, along with 35 other chapters, was selected based on excellence in all areas of chapter operations including scholarship, leadership and meaningful service. Gracen Daniel, president of Texas Tech's Mortar Board chapter said, “Receiving this award means a lot for our chapter,” “It’s a recognition that our chapter has gone above and beyond the expectations and ideals held by Mortar Board, and we’re really proud of that.” Student Involvement would like to congratulate all those involved in Mortar Board, thank you for your dedication to excellence and the university!

For more information on eligibility and how to apply to Mortar Board, visit the Texas Tech Chapter’s website.

Saddle Tramps Keep Texas Tech Traditions Alive

Formed by a Tech student in 1936, this all-male booster organization supports men's athletics at Texas Tech. The Saddle Tramps promote school spirit across campus all year long and they are most famously known for the wrapping of the Will Rodgers & Soapsuds statue on campus. Before home games the saddle tramps gather on Thursday nights to wrap the statue in red crepe paper. This is a tradition that has stood the test of time and is a trademark to our university. You can see Saddle Tramps at home games supporting the Red Raiders in Texas Tech fashion by the ringing of the bells! Student Involvement would like to thank the Saddle Tramps for their dedication to Texas Tech's rich history and traditions!
