2019 FOCUS Coordinating Staff Application

The Office of First Year & Transition Programs is accepting applications for the 2019 FOCUS Coordinating Staff. Position Description

First Year and Transition Programs Student Coordinator
Reporting to the Assistant Director of First Year & Transition Programs, the First Year and Transition Programs Student Coordinator will assist with daily operations of initiatives for students in transition including the FOCUS Orientation Program, Hatter Trek summer programs, and other first year and transfer student initiatives.  The position will begin December 1, 2018 and end on December 1, 2019.  Duties will include:

  • Assist in the implementation of all components of FOCUS Orientation, a five day orientation program for new first-year, transfer, and non-traditional students before the first day of classes in August.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Hatter Trek program for incoming students.  
  • Assist in the implementation of summer programming for incoming students, including but not limited to Fast Track Fridays.  
  • Attend a two-day planning retreat with the coordinating staff on January 9-10, 2019.  Move-in will be on January 8, 2019.  
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in Spring FOCUS, a two day orientation program in held January 11-12, 2019.   
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in FOCUS Assistant Coordinator and Leader recruitment and selection.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in SOFA, our annual weekend staff retreat tentatively on February 15-16, 2019.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in weekly meetings for the coordinating staff.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in spring training for the coordinating staff.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in a week long training program for FOCUS Orientation staff prior to August orientation.
  • Co-Supervise a group of Assistant Coordinators with the Assistant Director and Graduate Assistant.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of  First Year and Transition Programs events including, but not limited to: Hatter Saturday, Friends and Family Weekend, Off to School Parties, Open Houses, Phi Eta Sigma induction, and First Year Festival.
  • Commit to working approximately 20 hours per week in the Office of First Year and Transition Programs in DeLand, FL throughout May - August of 2019 (on-campus housing will be provided if needed).  
  • Completes approximately 6 hours per week in the First Year and Transition Programs office for event coordination, planning, and implementation throughout the academic year.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled on the DeLand campus for the entirety of the Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Fall 2019 semesters.  
  • Candidate should be energetic, organized, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Candidate must meet all minimum requirements to be a FOCUS Leader, and have served as a FOCUS Leader or a member of the Coordinating Staff in 2018.
  • Candidate must be able to attend all important dates listed within this application.

FOCUS Assistant Coordinator

  • Completes approximately 4 hours per week in the First Year and Transition Programs office for event coordination, planning, and implementation.
