FOCUS Coordinating Staff Application 2017

The Office of First Year & Transition Programs is accepting applications for the 2018 FOCUS Coordinating Staff. Position Description

FOCUS Coordinator
Reporting to the Assistant Director of First Year & Transition Programs, the FOCUS coordinators will assist with daily operations of the FOCUS Orientation Program, and other first year and transfer student initiatives the position will begin November 30, 2017 and end on November 30, 2018.  Duties include:

  • Aid in the implementation of all components of FOCUS Orientation, a five day orientation program for new first-year, transfer, and non-traditional students before the first day of classes in August.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in spring FOCUS, a two day orientation program in January.
  • Attend the Daring to Lead retreat in January 2018.  
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in FOCUS Assistant Coordinator and Leader recruitment and selection.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in SOFA, our annual weekend staff retreat on February 9-10, 2018.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in weekly meetings for the coordinating staff.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in spring training class for the coordinating staff.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in a week long training program before orientation.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and participate in May training to plan FOCUS and several of its components.
  • Co-Supervise a group of Assistant Coordinators with the Assistant Director and Graduate Assistant.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of  First Year and Transition Programs events including: Hatter Saturday, Friends and Family Weekend, Off to School Parties, Open Houses, Phi Eta Sigma induction, and First Year Festival.
  • Commit to working approximately 20 hours per week in the Office of First Year and Transition Programs in DeLand, FL throughout May - August of 2018 (on-campus housing will be provided if needed).  
  • Completes approximately 4 hours per week in the First Year and Transition Programs office for event coordination, planning, and implementation during the academic year.

  • Candidate should be energetic, organized, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Candidate must meet all minimum requirements to be a FOCUS Leader, and have served as a FOCUS Leader or a member of the Coordinating Staff in 2018.
  • Candidate must be able to attend all important dates listed within this application.

FOCUS Assistant Coordinator

Position Description:
