KMSA 2019-2020 Application

This application is for all the positions at KMSA. The position descriptions are listed below.

 

The GENERAL MANAGER shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Shall ensure the station’s compliance with ALL Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules and Regulations pertaining to noncommercial FM radio.

B. Must have adequate knowledge of radio, video, and business.

C. Must have specific goals and plans for KMSA.

D. Will be responsible for payroll and ensuring that each staff member is paid correctly and promptly.

E. Will perform Executive Staff evaluations at the end of each semester.

F. Will be responsible for ensuring that each staff member has access to the station and/or any other areas as needed.

G. Will be responsible for providing an atmosphere with opportunities for education and professional experience.

H. Shall serve as the office manager being responsible for mail, phone messages, and any other types of correspondence with students, the Faculty Advisor, and the community.

I. Will serve as a member of Media Board representing KMSA and its subsidiaries.

The OPERATIONS MANAGER shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Shall function as the Human Resources Manager for the station.

B. Will be responsible for the Emergency Alert System protocol and have a thorough understanding ALL FCC Rules and Regulations pertaining to noncommercial FM radio.

C. Shall ensure that all air talent are properly trained in all functions of the station including all on-air policies/conduct.

D. Shall be responsible for maintaining all files in the station including discrepancy logs, staff files, and all FCC related documents.

E. Shall be responsible for ensuring that all of the equipment in the on-air studio as well as the production studio is in working order. Reports of nonfunctioning or malfunctioning equipment will be made to the Broadcast Engineer immediately.

F.  Will be responsible for hiring air talent and will work together with the Production Manager on the station’s programming.

G. Will be responsible (along with the Production Manager) for on-air checks of air talent and will engage in quality control.

The DIRECTOR OF UNDERWRITING shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Will be responsible for ensuring the station’s financial stability through underwriting, KMSA sponsored events, and any other means which are acceptable under the rules and regulations of Mesa State College.

B. Must know ALL FCC Rules and Regulations regarding underwriting for noncommercial stations.

C. Will be responsible for the training of all underwriting/sales staff.

D. Will be responsible for billing, collecting, and depositing all money for KMSA.

E. Will be responsible for informing the GM and Faculty Advisor of all incoming and outgoing revenue.

F. Will be responsible for drafting the KMSA budget to be presented to the FAC bi-yearly.

G. Will work together with the GM to ensure that payroll is done correctly.

The PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Will be responsible for ALL promotions, on-air giveaways, or any other types of promotional activities.

B. Must authorize all on-air promotions and announcements.

C. Must be up to date on ALL FCC Rules and Regulations regarding underwriting and promotions pertaining to noncommercial FM radio.

D. Must promote KMSA both on and off campus to the GM’s approval and expectation.

The MUSIC DIRECTOR shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Will be responsible for the cataloging of all music by type as it relates to the KMSA formats.

B. Will be responsible for all music aired.

C. Will be responsible for charting (and archiving) all music for the College Music Journal.

D. Will be responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with music reps and artists locally and nationally, and internationally.

E. Will be responsible for editing all music for suitability for air use.

F. Will be responsible (with the Production Manager) for keeping the automation system updated with the same new music that is being played live on air.

The SPORTS DIRECTOR shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Will be responsible for all sports events, which are made available on KMSA and its subsidiaries.

B. Will be responsible for hiring all sports staff with the approval of the Operations Manager.

C. Will work together with the GM or the Operations Manager to schedule sports broadcasts around the existing programming schedule.

D. Will be responsible for the remote broadcasting equipment.

E. Will establish and maintain positive working relationships with Colorado Mesa University athletes, coaches, and local sports media professionals.

F. Will work together with the Production Director and Music Director to find acceptable time slots for sports shows.

G. Will be responsible for the quality control of all sports staff performances, whether in studio or live remote sports broadcasts.

The WEB MASTER shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Will have an adequate understanding of web content development, in addition to adequate knowledge of HTML and other coding languages.

B. Will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the KMSA website, including content management and updates, style changes, et al.

C. Will work together with the GM on the direction and purpose of the KMSA web site.

The PRODUCTION DIRECTOR shall operate within these guidelines:

A. Will be up to date on ALL FCC Rules and Regulations that pertain to operations and underwriting for noncommercial FM radio.

B. Will be responsible for the production of all underwriting spots in a timely manner.

C. Will be responsible for the training of all staff who use the production facilities.

D. Will work together with the Operations Manager to conduct periodic on-air checks of DJs for quality control.
