INFORMS is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting and advancing operations research and the management science in industry and academia. Our student chapter promotes the same ideals here at ASU. Our activities include tours to manufacturers in the Phoenix area, tutoring for graduate and undergraduate classes, seminars, and networking events. Description

The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) is the largest society in the world for professionals in the field of operations research (OR), management science, and analytics.

An INFORMS Student Chapter is (1) a venue for learning, (2) a catalyst for professional advancement, and (3) an opportunity for friendships. Within a Chapter, student members from business, engineering, and science programs can join with faculty to organize seminars and discussion groups about new methods and applications of OR/MS.

As a venue for learning, INFORMS students (1) take part in educational seminars led by faculty and senior PhD students, (2) attend workshops that teach the basics of a software, programming language or job interview tips, and (3) attend talks by industry leaders (i.e., Intel, American Express, and Mayo Clinic).

As a catalyst for professional advancement, INFORMS students have the opportunity to (1) participate in national and international conferences, (2) publish their research in an INFORMS journal (currently INFORMS has 14 journals), and (3) network with their peers for future collaboration.

As an opportunity for friendships, INFORMS students get to participate in a vast number of social activities that include hiking, game night, international potlucks, coffee breaks, barbecues, dancing, Escape the Room, and an annual trip to Northern Arizona.

Officers must be students in good academic and conduct standing and must be currently enrolled in classes at ASU during the semester(s) in which they are officers.

University policy on student organization registration, membership and officer requirements:

1. The organization must be created and controlled by currently enrolled students of ASU.

2. A minimum of three currently enrolled ASU students is required to register a student organization.

3. Membership in a registered student organization is limited to students enrolled for at least one semester hour of credit at ASU. Faculty, staff, alumni, and others may participate in the activities and programs of student organizations as guests. Guests may not vote and may not have the same privileges as a member. The number of ASU student members shall always exceed the number of guest participants.

4.. All officers must be in good academic and conduct standing. A student on academic or disciplinary probation may not hold office but may continue as an organization member.

5. At least one officer must either participate in a mandatory organization information session or meet with an appropriate staff person prior to registration.

6. Membership and all privileges, including voting and officer positions, must be extended to all students without regard to age, ethnicity, gender, disability, color, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, Section 106.14, makes an exception for social fraternities and sororities, in regard to gender, for membership criteria. Religious student organizations will not be denied registration solely because they limit membership or leadership positions to students who share the same religious beliefs. These groups, however, may not discriminate in membership or leadership on any other prohibited basis (i.e., age, ethnicity, gender, disability, color, national origin, race, sexual orientation, or veteran status).
