Southern China Expedition (Zhangjiajie, Changsha, Guangzhou) 2017 FAQ

When is the trek?

It will be from 10 December to 20 December 2017 (11D10N). We will be meeting at Changi Airport on 10th December at 1900HRS and arriving back in Singapore at around 0830HRS on 20th December.

Where and what is this trip about?

Zhangjiajie is the main focus of this trip and most of our trekking activities will take place there. However, we will be stopping by Guangzhou for a pre-hike at Baiyun mountain before bringing you to see what Zhangjiajie has to offer. Zhangjiajie National Forest is China’s first National Forest Park and one of the most famous, and was the inspiration for some of the landscapes in James Cameron’s Avatar. Not only is it an AAAAA scenic area rated by the China National Tourism Administration, but a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well!

What are some of the places we are visiting?

We will be visiting 3 cities, namely Guangzhou, Zhangjiajie, and Changsha.
We will be trekking up Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou before heading to Zhangjiajie, where we will be visiting the Wulingyuan Scenic Area as well as Tianmen Mountain over 4 days. The trip wouldn’t be complete without visiting one of the most beautiful towns in China – Fenghuang. After Fenghuang, we will be stopping by Changsha and Guangzhou for R&R.

What is the difficulty of this trek?

This trip is rated 2/5 besides Yangjiajie, which is somewhat steeper. Treks will be 4-5 hours long but it will be mostly on flat lands. Important: We will be spending much time on foot exploring, as the locations are mostly walkable, so proper footwear is a must!

How much is this trip? What does it include?

The price for non-Rovers members is $898 SGD. Members are entitled to 5% discount to all Rovers trek, capped at a maximum of $50 per trip. Hence, members would only have to pay $853 for the trip. (Learn more about membership here!)
The trip fee covers airfare, accommodation, trekking guides, transport and tours. Breakfast will be provided by our accommodation for 3 mornings. Other than that, meal costs, transport costs (during R&R), personal medication, tour guide tips, and personal shopping expenses will be borne by our participants themselves.

Where will we spend the nights?

Of the 6 accommodations that we will be staying in, 5 are actually hotels, and 1 is a hostel. However, even the hostel will feel like a hotel stay. This is because we decided to book their Family room and Twin room opposed to their dorm rooms to give you more privacy! So don’t worry, you will most definitely have comfortable beds to sleep in.
Do note that one of the nights will be spent travelling to a different city, so you might have to catch some sleep while we are on the plane and train!

Will there be a local guide?

Yes, there will be an English speaking trek guide from the travel agency during our time in Zhangjiajie.

How many participants will be on this trek?

We can only bring a total of 16 participants on this trek. Slots are limited, so sign up fast!

How is this trek different from the others?

3 cities (Zhangjiajie, Changsha and Guangzhou) in a single trip? That’s one not to miss! In addition, you will even get to travel to smaller towns and villages like Fenghuang Ancient Town, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Furthermore, you might have the opportunity to experience snow! This trek is not meant to be very intensive, so don’t worry, you don’t have to be extremely fit or experienced to join us!
