On behalf of African American Programs and Services (AAP&S) I want to welcome you to Northern Kentucky University! Our office strives to uphold the principle of Umoja which means to strive for and maintain unity in the family and community. We are truly a “home away from home” for African/American students, faculty, and staff.  We provide programming, advocacy, and outreach that assists with retaining African American students, and encourages them to achieve their academic and personal goals.

“The mission of African American Programs & Services (AAP&S) is to facilitate a support system which advocates academic excellence, celebrates African/African American culture, and engages students with faculty, staff, alumni, and the NKU community."

Our mission is achieved through four key areas:

•Providing a space where African/ African American students can connect and create a “home away from home”.

•Building commUNITY among students at NKU.

•Providing educational opportunities through programming, trainings, and lectures.

•Advancing the cultural competency of the NKU community by collaborating with the departments in the Center for Student Inclusiveness.
