Description

CU Boulder SHPE/MAES is a joint student chapter from two national organizations: the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Latinos in Science and Engineering (MAES). Our mission is to develop a diverse community of supportive CU Boulder students that excel as STEM leaders, contributing community members, and well rounded professionals. This is achieved through professional development workshops, networking opportunities, outreach events, fundraising, social events, and conferences. Non engineering or science majors are welcome, as are non Hispanic or Latino students.

How will this organization's activities benefit the CU Boulder community?

General Meetings: - We hold general member meetings every two weeks during the academic school year which consist of workshops, social/cultural events, conference presentations, and industry speakers.

Noche de Ciencias: - This is our main fall outreach event hosted at a high school where students are immersed in a STEM environment while their parents attend a college info & and FAFSA information presentation. The event is aimed towards helping minority and underprivileged youth.

Science and Engineering Extravaganza: - This is our main spring outreach event hosted at the CU Boulder campus where pre-collegiate students participate in fun hands-on STEM workshops. They also tour the CU Campus and get to interact with current undergraduate students. Saturday Brunches: - Once a month, our members help put on a Saturday brunch event where we make home-made latin food and interact with our members.
