WELCOME!!

Colleges Against Cancer is the collegiate branch of the American Cancer Society aimed at bringing the fight against cancer directly to college students.

We spread awareness of cancer through 4 main pillars:

  1. ADVOCACY: We strive to make REAL, tangible change through petitions and letters to Congress. In spring 2010, we collected 600+ signatures for the California Cancer Research Act, which will be on the 2012 ballot.
  2. CANCER EDUCATION: We hold awareness rallies every quarter in Bruin Plaza, where we hand out prevention tips and information. In the 2009-2010 school year, we held a Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, the Great American Smokeout, and a Sun Safety Awareness Rally!
  3. SURVIVORSHIP: This branch is dedicated to honoring and supporting survivors: anyone who has heard the words you have cancer. This past year, we made monthly visits to the oncology wards at the Ronald Reagan hospital and the Mattel Childrens hospital bringing gifts, and we have also organized a Survivor Barbeque!
  4. RELAY FOR LIFE: This is the signature event of the American Cancer Society - we camp out for 24 hours at Drake Stadium, while we *celebrate* survivors, *remember* lost loved ones, and *fight back* against this horrible disease by raising money to support all of the American Cancer Society's research and programs!

Portal Information

Description

Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is a collegiate branch of the American Cancer Society that brings the fight against cancer directly to college students by planning Relay for Life, encouraging education, inspiring advocacy, and celebrating survivorship and engagement.

Ultimately, since our start 13 years ago, UCLA CAC has consistently been distinguished with many prestigious awards. We believe that these awards--including Leaders of Hope three years in a row, Survivor & Caregiver Engagement Chapter of the Year three years in a row, and 2014 Advocacy Chapter of the Year--demonstrate the effectiveness of our strategic direction, organization, and execution of the American Cancer Society's mission statement.
