Volunteer at the NYC Marathon!
Calling all exchange visitors on J-visas! This year, you have the unique opportunity to volunteer at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 5th, alongside exchange visitors at institutions across the East Coast.
The NYC Marathon has come a long way from its first running in 1970 to become the world's biggest and most popular 26.2-mile road race. 50,000 runners participate annually, representing more than 120 countries from around the world, and more than 10,000 volunteers support the runners from the moment they begin their journey to the start line until they are reunited with their families.
This year, the U.S. Department of State will have two 'fulid stations' where all of the volunteers will be exchange visitors and State Department employees. Volunteers assist with setup, distribute water and Gatorade to the runners, and cheer them on! Please note that volunteers must commit to the entire shift from 10am-2pm or 11:30am-4:30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet other exchange visitors and experience a once-in-a-lifetime event!
Note: This is event is organized by the U.S. State Department, not the OISS, so you will be in charge of your own logistics of getting to and from NYC. Once you register to attend, the State Department will be in touch with further details.
