American Guitar Part Four: Special Guest Artist Benjamin Verdery
After a semester-long series in which we explored the guitar music of Early Appalachia, Cowboy Folk, Gospel, Blues, Jazz and 60s Protest Songs - we conclude with a special performance/talk.
Benjamin Verdery is the Chair of the Guitar Department at the Yale School of Music, the artistic director of New York's 92nd Street Y’s Art of the Guitar series since 2006, and artistic director of the bi-annual Yale Guitar Extravaganza since 1985. Benjamin is hailed for his innovative and eclectic musical career. You can view his material on his website, and also view his Youtube channel here.
Join us as Benjamin plays guitar and talks about the many musical influences in his career. The session will include original works and demonstrate many of the musical styles discussed in this series including blues, rock, jazz and classical. This special event is free and open to Yale affiliates, but registration is required and names will be checked at the door. To create a quite atmosphere for this special musical performance, we recommend that young children do not attend.
