LAUNCH Graduate Mentor Application - Spring 2020

Program Description: The purpose of LAUNCH is to prepare our first-year and transfer student communities to successfully launch their Tandon journey. The program spans the crucial first six weeks of the semester. This Spring, we are piloting four (4) LAUNCH mentorship groups, where two current graduate students will serve as mentors to a group of 10 incoming graduate students. These mentorship groups will meet once per week. Each week, the groups will discuss a different topic including managing academics, navigating NYC, getting involved on campus, professional and career development, goal setting, and more.

The curriculum will be designed by professional staff in the Office of Student Activities & Resource Center and facilitated entirely by the graduate student mentors. Mentors will participate in two trainings prior to the program beginning and will regularly check in with OSARC staff throughout the six weeks of the mentorship program.

Mentors are dynamic students who aid in the growth and progression of their mentees, academically and socially. Mentors also act as role models and lead by example, while serving as a link to student resources on both the Brooklyn and Washington Square campuses.

Mentor Requirements:

  • Mentors must be currently enrolled, full-time, on-campus graduate students at NYU Tandon
  • Mentors must hold and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Mentors must be able to commit to two trainings - one in December and one in January (dated TBD). 
  • Mentors must be able to commit to one meeting a week for 6 weeks, starting the week of February 3rd and ending the week of March 13th. The meeting time will be mutually agreed upon by OSARC and mentors.
