TCCA is the Fordham University section of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “Tzu Chi”), an international non-profit humanitarian organization founded in 1966 in Taiwan by Dharma Master Cheng Yen. Tzu Chi has been dedicated to the four major missions of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanistic Culture and ongoing efforts in International Relief, Bone Marrow Donation, Environmental Protection, and Community Volunteerism.
The purpose of Fordham TCCA is to advance the mission and humanitarian work of the Tzu Chi Foundation with the spirit of Tzu Chi’s unique culture, which emphasizes compassion, gratefulness, respect and love, through organizing community service to serve those in need in times of hardship. Tzu Chi brings unique qualities to Fordham such as an embodiment of socially-energized Buddhism. Much like the Jesuit values Fordham encompasses, Tzu Chi looks to help the whole person, through its system of hospitals and schools but also through international relief funds and recycling programs. The volunteerism and fundraising events put forth by Fordham Tzu Chi will be fundamentally based on the Tzu Chi missions aforementioned.
