Take Back the Night
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and that means it is time for our 27th annual Take Back the Night (TBTN) March and Rally, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, with resource tables, followed by the Proclamation Reading, speakers and performers. Participants will then join in a candlelight march from campus.
TBTN is co-sponsored by the WIU Women’s Center, the Western Illinois Regional Council’s Victim Services agency, the Feminist Action Alliance student organization, the University Counseling Center, the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Initiative, and other campus and community departments and organizations.
TBTN marches help educate people about the dangers of violence in our communities – specifically sexual violence, such as rape/sexual assault, incest, child abuse, domestic violence and stalking.
TBTN goes beyond education by helping to empower us all to find our voice against these day-to-day outrages across their multicultural dimensions.
