MY IOWA Peer Leader Application 2017
What does a MY IOWA peer leader do?
My Iowa Peer Leaders are students who have attended the Summit in the past and are integral to the success of the Leadership Summit. Peer Leaders are students who support participants by acting as mentors and will role model productive interactions and learning during the Summit. Peer Leaders will also be active contributors in providing programming during the Summit through the facilitation of community building activities and discussion.
What is MY IOWA?
The MY IOWA Multicultural and International Student Leadership Summit is an overnight retreat. Open to all UI students, MY IOWA will give participants a chance to build connections and leadership skills with a diverse group of people who want to make the university a place where all feel welcome. This is a fun and exciting way to start your semester off, and build strong relationships with students across all identities throughout your time at Iowa! The curriculum has strong connections with The National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) model and other leadership development experiences.
MY IOWA is an overnight program occurring October 13-14, 2017, and peer leaders are expected to attend the full program. Peer leaders are compensated with free meals, lodging, and transportation to and from the event.
Mandatory Peer Leader Training will take place at the following times (subject to change based on availability):
- Thursday, September 21 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
- Thursday, October 12 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
You will also be expected to attend a pre-summit gathering with participants. (Time and Date TBD)
