Position: Medical Office Assistant, Work Study Required
Company: South County Physical Therapy
Hours: Up to 19.5 per week
Wage: Current work-study rate

Position Summary: To facilitate patient care by performing duties that improve patient care.

Essential Duties:

  • Facilitate admissions processes
  • Manage communications from external and internal sources with professionalism, respect, and confidentiality
  • Schedule clients for services using various formats needed to comply with facility guidelines
  • Assist in medical records requests, verifying proper authorizations to obtain records, notarization, documentation, etc.
  • Assist with insurance verification, verifying certification periods are not exceeded
  • Assist with compiling home health billing and records maintenance
  • File records, fax information to referring physicians
  • Facilitate good communication between facility, physicians, caregivers, clients, and payers
  • Collect co-pays, co-insurance, sales items, and reconcile cash drawer/envelope daily
  • Record sales tax, print receipts
  • Maintain professional appearance, professional conduct, interacting with other staff and all others in a professional, respectful, courteous manner at all times
  • Exceed clients expectations for customer service by being patient, kind, and helpful to each client
  • Assist in maintenance of facility and maintain a neat, clean work area
  • Follow up with no-show clients to reschedule
  • Assist with stocking, organizing supplies and IP items
  • Prepare new client charts and appropriate forms
  • Prepare daily charge tickets for each patient encounter
  • Enter data into WEBPT, establishing new client accounts, including emails and Kareo account info
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be Lamar University student eligible for work-study financial aid
  • Ability to effectively use computers and basic office equipment: fax, copiers, printers, label machines, etc
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Desire to learn and work as a positive team member
  • Being bilingual is an asset but is not a requirement
  • Excellent customer service skills and be willing to treat all clients and caregivers and healthcare personnel with respect and kindness
