TITLE: Student Assistant
HOURS: Up to 19.5 hours per week
WAGE: Current work-study rate

Position Summary
The Student Assistant for the Office of Diversity & Inclusion is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director for the Office Diversity & Inclusion in the planning and implementation of co-curricular campus-wide cultural awareness events. As an integral position within the Division of Student Engagement, the Student Assistant assists with a variety student development and campus life programs/events. Duties include compiling reports that evaluate goals and learning outcomes; collaborating with faculty, staff and students to foster interest and participation in the planning and implementation of diversity related programming; and assisting with marketing of diversity related programming events.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in maintaining the diversity website
  • Create and maintain the Orgsync Diversity/Multicultural page
  • Inform campus constituents of diversity related campus events and conferences via social networking: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Responsible for assisting with the planning of five (5) university recognized diversity celebrations (Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, International Students Appreciation Month and Pride Month)
  • Creation and distribution of marketing materials, pamphlets, and programs
  • Collaborates with diverse teams of people, i.e., students, faculty, and staff in the planning of events
  • Utilizes Microsoft Office, Adobe Graphics Programs, Banner, and OrgSync
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a registered student at Lamar University
  • Must be work-study eligible
  • Must be enrolled in Summer I and II 2017, at least 3 hours per session
  • Must be available to work in Summer 2017
  • Must maintain a semester GPA of 3.0
  • Must be of a good character and possess the willingness to promote the Office of Diversity & Inclusion and Lamar University in a positive way
  • Must be a current sophomore or higher

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous or current experience in student organization leadership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Applicants must be proficient in the following software packages: Photoshop, Publisher, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, OrgSync and Social Networking – Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
