SOAR Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What time should I arrive at SOAR?
A: You can check-in anytime between 11:30am and 12:30pm
Q: Can I see a tentative schedule of the event?
A: We send these out about a week out from the event. Check the e-mail you submitted on the SOAR registration form.
Q: What is TSI testing and do I need to test?
A: You can read more about TSI testing and exemptions here. To be sure, always check with firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm you are exempt.
Q: What is the Math Placement Exam or ALEKS?
A: We determine your preparedness for Calculus I by requiring that you complete an online assessment known as the ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning Assessment at SOAR. If you are majoring in one of the following majors, you need to plan to take this assessment at 9am Thursday: Biology, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
Q: Can I bring a guest to SOAR?
A: Parents, guardians or family members are welcome to attend. One guest is included in your orientation fee. Any additional guest is $25 and it is to be paid on-site when checking in. We accept cash and credit cards. Friends are not allowed to attend SOAR with you.
Q: What will my parent/guardian do while I'm attending SOAR?
A: We have a separate parent/guardian track with the same educational content you will be receiving. Parents receive a campus tour, meet academic leaders/faculty as well as hear from important departments on campus such as financial aid and the registrar.
Q: Do you provide lodging for guests?
A: No, parents are not allowed to stay on campus. We have set up discounted hotel blocks at area hotels. You can find those here.

Q: What meals are provided?
A: For students: Dinner on Thursday / Breakfast and Lunch on Friday.
For guests: Wine/Cheese Reception on Thursday / Breakfast and Lunch on Friday
Q: Where do we park?
A: You will use the second entrance into campus (the entrance AFTER the brick sign with flag poles) and park in the Bringle Lake Village residence hall parking lot. Follow the signs.
