The Office of Student Research (OSR) was established in 2005 to expand the opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to engage in faculty mentored scholarship and creative endeavors at Appalachian State University. Students who understand how discoveries are made in their chosen fields are well-prepared to address the unsolved problems of the future.
The OSR has a variety of resources for students, including financial support, to help research become a distinctive feature of the undergraduate and graduate experience at Appalachian. The office provides resources that may assist you in the research process. These resources include assistance in finding a mentor, developing an appropriate abstract or grant proposal, designing a presentation, and discovering ways to disseminate the information.
The OSR is located on the second floor of the Plemmons Student Union (room 251). Staff includes Dr. Alan Utter, the OSR Director, Dr. Becki Battista, Interim Assistant Director, and Kathy Weaver Stevens, the Research Programs Administrator. There are also 2 Graduate Assistants that help in the office.
The Office of Student Research at Appalachian State University supports and promotes learning through mentored research experiences with Appalachian faculty and other national and international scholars and professionals. We believe that these special collaborative relationships are among the most rewarding experiences for both faculty and students. So come on, get engaged in research!
