Cancer.

It is something that can appear suddenly, entirely unexplainable, which can have a very hard impact on everyone involved. Nearly everyone has been affected by cancer, and it is the job of Colleges Against Cancer to reach out to DU and the extended community to promote cancer awareness in a kind, compassionate, and caring manner.

Colleges Against Cancer is a non-profit, student-led organization devoted to individuals with cancer, cancer survivors, caretakers, and all of those impacted by cancer. In association with the American Cancer Society, CAC raises money through fundraising events for innovative cancer research and programs to help those with cancer, such as Road to Recovery and Look Good, Feel Better.

Fundraising culminates in the biggest event of the year, Relay for Life; an all-night marathon to raise money and reiterate that cancer never sleeps. The Survivor Lap celebrates those who have made it through this tribulation, while the Luminaria remembers all of the loved ones who have succumb to cancer's devastating power. Overall, the event celebrates all of those affected by cancer for all the hardship they go through, and brings the community together for a common purpose - to love and care for one another.

In addition to Relay for Life, Colleges Against Cancer hosts the biannual event of Burritos for Boobs at Illegal Pete's and Relay for Life Kick-Off Event. Burritos for Boobs takes place in October to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in March to promote an All Cancer Awareness Month. The Relay for Life kick-off event takes places in late February or early March with the goal of officially starting the Relay fundraising season. Colleges Against Cancer is always looking for new methods of fundraising and building awareness within the DU community.
