COVID-19 Preparedness Plan: Update #3

Gainesville, Florida - The Florida FFA Association continues to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the United States, and we are committed to taking proactive steps to protect the health of our staff, our teachers, our stakeholders and the students we serve.

In accordance with guidance received from multiple federal, state and local agencies, along with our partners at the University of Florida, we are taking the following precautionary actions, effective immediately:

  • All staff and state officer business travel will be limited beginning Monday, March 16th through Sunday, March 29th, except for trips that are approved as necessary and responsible.  Travel beyond March 29th will be evaluated at a later date.
  • Veterinary Assisting CDE (March 14) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals.
  • National Chapter Award Applications Deadline (March 15) - EXTENDED to April 1. This is a delivery date, not a postmark date.  Applications must be in the office by end of day April 1.
  • Proficiency Award Applications Deadline (March 15) - EXTENDED to April 1.  This is a delivery date, not a postmark date.  Applications must be in the office by end of day April 1.
  • FFA Foundation Beast Feast (March 21) - CANCELLED with intent to reschedule at a future date.
  • State Leadership Summit (SLS) (March 21-22) - CANCELLED with intent to facilitate delegate work electronically.
  • State Land Judging (March 27) - CANCELLED with 2019 top five teams (chapters) remaining eligible for national competition.
  • Star Tour (March 30-April 3) - TBA No decision has been made at this time.
  • State Horse CDE (April 4) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals and/or default to preliminary scores.
  • Award Application Judging (April 5-6) - TBA. No decision has been made at this time. Options are being considered.
  • State Aquaculture CDE (April 9) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals and/or default to preliminary scores.
  • State Livestock CDE (April 11) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals and/or default to preliminary scores.
  • State Meats CDE (April 18) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals and/or default to preliminary scores.
  • State Agribusiness Management CDE - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals event.
  • State Agricultural Sales CDE (April 24) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals event and/or in conjunction with the Florida FFA State Convention.
  • State Agricultural Communications CDE (April 24) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals event and/or in conjunction with the Florida FFA State Convention.
  • State OH Demos (April 24) - CANCELLED for 2020.
  • State Vegetable CDE (April 24) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals and/or default to preliminary scores.
  • State Ag Mechanics CDE (April 25) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals and/or default to preliminary scores.
  • State Poultry CDE (April 25) - POSTPONED with intent to host online state finals.
  • State Officer Candidate Screening - (April 27-28) No Change at this time.  Will continue to evaluate as more information becomes available.
  • 92nd Florida FFA State Convention & Expo (June 15-19).  No Change at this time.  Expect Registration & Housing Information to become available early April.
  • Note:  All other calendar dates/deadlines not specifically mentioned in this message remain in effect at this time.

As you might imagine, we will continue evaluating the COVID-19 situation through guidance offered by the CDC and other federal and state health organizations. We ask for your help in assuring that our members, families and advisors know we are evaluating and taking precautions during this uncertain time. We will continue to act in the interest of the health and safety for everyone taking part in our events.
