Update #3: Hurricane Dorian / Chapter Presidents' Conference (CPC) Postponed

Aug 28, 2019 by Ronnie Simmons

As a result of our ongoing conversations with Emergency Management officials, school district personnel and having an abundance of caution regarding the safety and well-being of our attendees, Florida FFA has made the decision to postpone the 2019 Chapter Presidents' Conference (CPC) until further notice.  Our hope is that students and teachers can use this time to properly prepare for the potential effects that Hurricane Dorian poses for our state.

Earlier today we received communications from thirteen (13) school districts regarding travel cancellations and risk management issues that would prevent students and teachers from traveling later this week.  Likewise, outside of the obvious potential impacts of adverse weather associated with storms like Dorian, we also took into consideration the timeline of other potential factors including coastline evacuations, heavy traffic, fuel shortages, family evacuations and various other factors.

As you can imagine, we are already working closely with our friends at Hilton Daytona Beach to reschedule our conference.  While we have not identified a date, it will likely be rescheduled for October or November - allowing time for school district approved travel.

Many have asked about refunds of conference fees.  All fees that have been paid for CPC are fully refundable.  However, we will not be processing refunds until a new conference date has been identified, allowing FFA chapters to made a decision if you wish to apply those funds to the rescheduled conference.  Once the new dates have been published, you can then notify us if a refund is desired.  Note:  If you have not already mailed your school check for CPC, please do not send it at this time.

On behalf of the Florida FFA Association, thank you for your diligence and patience as we've worked through this complicated but necessary process.  While our state officers are sad that they will not be able to interact with your students this weekend, they are already making plans (as I type) to welcome your students to the Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) conference in a few weeks.

In the meantime, our prayers will continue for all who will be impacted by the storm.  Thank you for what you do each day, but especially the work you do in your community during difficult situations, like these.

Stay safe,
