Welcome to Tuesday Teacher Talk ! We hope this brief newsletter will be helpful to you each week as we bring you snippets of upcoming events and information. This newsletter won’t replace CDE/LDE or leadership event registration emails. However, it will be a place to bring you reminders and pertinent information for the week.

Hurricane Irma Preparations 

Be prepared.  With the uncertainly surrounding the path of Hurricane Irma, we are all encouraged to take the time to prepared.  As agriculture teachers, we have the added responsibility of school land laboratories and other farm facilities, many of which contain school, chapter or student livestock projects.  Even if you don’t have livestock at school, we encourage you to take the time to have a conversation with your students (and perhaps their family) regarding a preparedness plan for their livestock projects, including but not limited to:

  • An adequate supply of hay, feed and water stored in a dry, safe place
  • Evacuation plans if animal evacuation is necessary (check with local extension agent for livestock shelters)
  • Having a conversation with school administration about the status of your school facilities and/or animals and the possibility of relocating student projects to school if it becomes necessary

Leadership Development Events (LDEs)

Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) Conference

Don’t forget that registration for the 2017 Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) conference is open!  This conference is the second phase of our leadership continuum. The COLT conference is designed to meet the needs of your chapter officers (or those that wish to become officers) and provide them with the tools that are necessary for a successful year of service. These six single day conferences will be hosted throughout the state for your convenience. Registration should be completed using the online registration system.  Registration must be completed for each attendee attending the conference, including advisors and chaperones.  To register, visit:

Cost is $25 for both students and adults. Price includes lunch & conference materials. This conference is open to all FFA members, but is designed for chapter officers.

Accommodations at Career/Leadership Development Events

Florida FFA is dedicated to providing opportunities to all FFA members. Please remember to designate on your CDE/LDE registrations if you have a student who requires an accommodation and  provide a clear description of the accommodation the student requires.  You will need to provide proof of the accommodation required by the student at the time of check-in. 

Chapter Management

Quality Chapter Plan

The 2017-2018 Quality Chapter Plan is now available.  The deadline to complete the plan is October 1st.  Please note that you will need an electronic copy of your chapter’s constitution to submit the plan. To complete your Quality Chapter Plan visit:

Membership Roster

The membership system will be up and running soon. We ask that in the meantime you begin collecting the necessary information to add your members to the membership system, so that you will be ready to process when it is available. As a policy, this year your members will not be eligible to compete in CDE/LDE’s unless they are processed on your membership roster. If you need members transferred from a middle school, junior chapter or another school please notify Erin Walker ( or Hannah Huggins (, please do not add them as new members to your roster. When the system is ready for new rosters, we will send you links to help guides to get your membership uploaded.

Unpaid Invoices

Please be reminded that per board policy, all chapter invoices must be paid in order to participate in Career and Leadership Development Events. This will take effect immediately. If you are a new advisor at a school and have concerns regarding your account, please let us know and we will work with you to get your account settled.

Foundation Corner

The Florida FFA Foundation is gearing up for the 2017 Florida FFA Hall of Fame Banquet on Monday, September 25th at the Florida FFA Leadership Training Center. To purchase tickets, please contact The Ten for Ten Giving Program is for Florida's Agriculture Education Teachers to commit to giving $10 per month for 10 months for a total yearly contribution of $100. Donations begin in August and run through May. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the special projects of the Florida FFA Foundation and will directly benefit students. A special THANK YOU to the educators who have already signed up to be a part of this program.
