Run for Respect

The Nanook Diversity and Action Center and UAF Green Dot Student Action Committee are hosting a 5K Walk/Run to engage community members in violence prevention programs in Fairbanks. The event will take place on Sunday, April 23, starting and ending at the UAF Police Department. Check-in will begin at 12pm and the race will start at 1pm. NDAC will have a discussion on Rebecca Solnit's "Men Explain Things to Me" for the month of March. In her comic, scathing essay, Solnit took on what often goes wrong in conversations between men and women. Fences Film Screening

NDAC will be screening Denzel Washington's 2016 film Fences, a film adaptation of a 1983 play by the same name written by August Wilson. The film details the experience of an African-American father with race relations in 1950s America and explores themes of masculinity, family, and the American Dream.  The screening will be held on March 7th @ 7pm in Arctic Java. There will be a discussion about the film afterwards.
