Dear students,

Please read this entire message. It contains important information that gets updated regularly.  If you haven't done so already, please read the latest about CSUEB's response to covid19.

Welcome to Spring semester 2020!

Prospective students: apply to join the UHP here.

To all students: if you haven't already, you are expected to read about the UHP here and here and find answers to Frequently Asked Questions here.

There will be a UHP Orientation on Monday, January 27 at 11 am in the Bayview Room in the second floor of the University Union.  If you plan to attend, RSVP here.   It's important that you RSVP!  Come and ask me anything UHP-related.

For current UHP students:

  • Contracts: Spring contract proposals are due Tuesday, February 11th.  Find more information about contracts here.  I also made this video about honors contracts for you and compiled some sample contracts here.  Nursing students have special contract instructions.   If faculty have any questions about the contract process, please direct them here. If you'd like to share previous Honors contract work with the UHP, please submit the paper, photo of your work, video of your presentation, sound recording of your concert, etc., here
  • HON 399: I've put the syllabus for HON 399 here and it will be updated as the semester progresses.
  • HON 309 in your Sophomore or Junior year and HON 399 in your Senior year. Syllabus can be found here
  • Events: Submit your event entries here. Remember that events need to be educational (not just social) in nature and occur at CSUEB.  To spare you from a constant barrage of emails, I've created an  Opportunities and Events page, which describes events hosted by other (campus and off-campus) organizations.  Check it frequently so that you don't miss interesting opportunities.  All campus events listed there count towards your 1-event per semester UHP requirement.  Due to precautions against covid19, I am waiving the event criteria for this semester. If you've already done an event this semester, we will apply that 'credit' for that event to next semester.
  • For safety reasons, CSUEB administration has cancelled Honors Convocation 2020.

Changes in University policy, administrative leadership, and Semester conversion have led to changes in UHP requirements, which differ by entry year.  To help you understand your exactly UHP graduation requirements, I've made UHP requirements by year page,

BaySync is transitioning to a new format, and I'll let you know when that is ready. Meanwhile, continue using this old BaySync page.

Wishing you an academically challenging and fruitful semester,

Dr. Shirley Yap

Professor of Mathematics and Director of the UHP
