About us

As the leading amateur and collegiate gaming organization within our state, and as as an excellent model for collegiate esports organizations recognized nationwide, the coordinators at the University of Utah continually strive for excellence in further pioneering the local esports scene and fostering an inclusive gaming community for all students and locals alike.
The work of our leadership, and undying efforts by community members and volunteers are what inspired the current official Varsity Esports program initiative at the University of Utah - which now offers 35 scholarships for talented student competitors. We are the first Power 5 school to host an official Varsity Esports program.

Our organization is one of the largest and most legacy gaming associations in a network of over 200 fellow Tespa chapter member organizations found across the United States and Canada.  Having served over 1,200 people at our events last year and hundreds of registered members members at our University of Utah campus, we represent the united gaming community, the competitive branch, and serve as the face for over a dozen student groups that cater to communities ranging in interest for anything titles such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and CS:GO, to general and tabletop gaming.

History

Beginning as a League of Legends student association in Spring of 2013, the organization later took root formally as The Esports Association on campus a year later as more esports-focused communities arose and chose to collaborate on events. The Esports Association (later Crimson Gaming) was founded by Angie Klingsieck in order to find a way to level up the gaming opportunities and event efforts on campus and to more readily network the gaming the community at the University of Utah with other collegiate and industry organizations across the nation.

Crimson Gaming has only grown since its inception on our campus and now boasts some of the largest tournaments and LAN events in the state of Utah. The 12 Executive Board members overseeing the organization, along with Crimson Gaming’s Leadership Council and the help of dedicated members of the public, regularly spearhead monthly LAN-style events, socials, online game nights, viewing parties, and competitive tournaments.

Here's What We Do

This is less formal than your purpose statement. Take this opportunity to discuss any activities the organization may be known for or what members of your organization can expect to gain through becoming a member. (For example social, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, leadership, physical/fitness, etc.)

We hold competitive esports events where players of different games can come together to compete in a fair and even playing field. Together, these students create lasting friendships and bonds through their teamwork and comradery. Beyond tournaments, our club hosts multiple social events including Viewing parties for large esports events, Game Nights for our more casual community and seasonal events such as "Duo Days" (a valentine's themed event). We give those who do not traditionally enjoy sporting events a home on campus to celebrate their nerdiness and teach them to be proud of themselves.
