Semester Serves volunteers will provide enrichment and companionship to dogs at the Animal Protective League's shelter to prepare them for eventual adoption. Volunteer duties may include dog enrichment activities (walking the dogs, taking them into the play yard, and providing treats, essential oils, comforting music, and tactile enrichment), grooming dogs, and assisting with cleaning the shelter. Volunteers should be prepared to lift up to 50 pounds, be on their feet for the duration of the experience, be comfortable in high-noise environments, and be willing to clean up after the dogs on the play yard. Comfort working with dogs and adherence to the APL's safety policies are a must for the experience. The program takes place every Tuesday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, September 26. This site requires a commitment of one semester. Transportation is provided in the CCEL van by the Semester Serves student leader. Volunteers will need to complete the APL's volunteer application, which includes a background check consent, prior to the first day at the site. The specific dates of this CCEL Serves will be as follows: 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 11/28, and 12/5. Volunteers are strictly required to attend the first two days of the program (9/26 & 10/3)  in order to go through the training process.

To sign up: Click the green button above, and fill out the short, one page application form that pops up.  You will then be contacted by CCEL to confirm your participation.  If this program is full, please contact Adrian Griffin at aag72@case.edu to be added to the waitlist.

Accessibility: CCEL is committed to providing all students with opportunities to take full advantage of our programs. Our staff recognizes that students with documented disabilities may require reasonable accommodations in order to achieve this objective. If you are interested in taking part in a specific project but have questions related to accommodations and/or the accessibility of a site, please contact the office of Disability Resources in Educational Services for Students and they will work with a representative from our office to answer your questions.
