Semester Serves volunteers will provide one-on-one friendly visits to elderly nursing home residents in their private rooms, with the door open, who are unable to leave their room due to either physical limitations or personal choice. Students will be matched to visit one or two residents throughout the program to either socialize with them, play a game, read, watch TV, or work on a hobby. Visits will take place at Eliza Bryant Village, which was founded over 120 years ago by the daughter of a freed slave and is the oldest continually operating African American nursing care facility in the United States. The program takes place every Saturday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. beginning Saturday, September 16. This site requires a commitment of one semester. Transportation is provided in the CCEL van by the Semester Serves student leader. Volunteers are also required to be available to serve from 12:30 to 3 p.m. the first day of the program (9/16) for a training at the site as well as an introduction to the resident with whom they will be working. The specific dates of this CCEL Serves will be as follows: 9/16 (back to campus by 3 p.m.), 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/28, 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, and 12/2.

To sign up: Click the green button above, and fill out the short, one page application form that pops up.  You will then be contacted by CCEL to confirm your participation.  If this program is full, please contact Adrian Griffin at aag72@case.edu to be added to the waitlist.

Accessibility: CCEL is committed to providing all students with opportunities to take full advantage of our programs. Our staff recognizes that students with documented disabilities may require reasonable accommodations in order to achieve this objective. If you are interested in taking part in a specific project but have questions related to accommodations and/or the accessibility of a site, please contact the office of Disability Resources in Educational Services for Students and they will work with a representative from our office to answer your questions.
