Organization Purpose Statement

The purpose of the First Generation Society is to aid, educate, mentor, and promote the advancement of First Generation & independent college students by maximizing the access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities available at higher learning institutions ensuring success post-graduation.

Selection Process

If your organization has selective membership, please describe the selection process.

A. To be eligible for membership, candidates must be an enrolled, part-time student at Georgia State University.
B. A Georgia State cumulative grade point average of 2.00 is required for membership.
C. Members must be first generation college students, independent college students, or have parents who have attended college more than seven years prior to the current academic year.
For Example: Parents must have graduated 2009 or prior to be a member for the 2014-2015 academic year.
D. Honorary members shall have demonstrated outstanding service to the community and support the purpose of the organization.

Are members required to pay dues to particpate?

Yes

If YES, include the cost of dues and how often they must be paid.

$15 per semester
