Introduction to LGBTQIA+ Identities and Supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community
This session counts toward the BUILD Certificate Program - find more information about BUILD here.
In this 2.5-hour workshop, participants will first learn about personal experiences of people who are LGBTQIA+, define different terms related to the LGBTQIA+ community, discuss identity, and and engage in an empathy building exercise. In the second portion of the workshop, participants will reflect on how allyship can counter discrimination and oppression and create a personalized plan to help foster an inclusive environment. Participants who complete the workshop will receive an ally placard.
Note: The introduction to LGBTQIA+ identities portion of the workshop provides essential background. Therefore, it is required that it be completed before the supporting the LGBTQIA+ community portion. Participants who have completed the introduction to LGBTQIA+ identities portion of the workshop in the past are welcome to repeat it or may arrive at 10:15am.
