Session I
Behind the Scenes with the Search Committee: The Academic Application Process
When: December 1, 2017 - 12:45 PM to 2:00 PM
Where: Mandel Center, Room 115

In this session, a panel of faculty members will discuss how the curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letter are key documents when applying to academic jobs.  Additional topics covered will be job search timeline, search committee make-up, networking, commonly requested materials, teaching and research statements, and publications.  Faculty will share their experiences and tips on how to craft compelling CVs and cover letters that emphasize specific skills and experiences to fit within and enrich academic institutions and best prepare for the application process. 

Session II
The Academic Interview
When: January 19, 2018 - 12:45 PM to 2:00 PM
Where: Mandel Center, Room 108

In this session, a panel of faculty members will discuss the interview process for faculty jobs, including the campus visit, the jobtalk/chalk talk, and typical interview questions.

Session III
Negotiating the Academic Job Offer
When: February 2, 2018 
Where: Mandel Center, Room 108

In this session, a panel of faculty members will discuss the negotiation process. Questions include:

  • What does a typical start-up package look like? How much can you negotiate it, and how can you provide justification for asking for more?
  • How much grant money are you expected to bring if you get hired?
  • What are some common pitfalls in the negotiation process?
