Homecoming 2012 Spirit Board Application
A printed copy of all applications with completed signatures is due either Monday, September 14 or September 19th between 7:00 am and 10:00 AM in front of the Student Union & Activities Office, room 203 SUB. This is in addition to the application you will submit online.
All registered student organizations are invited to participate in the Homecoming Spirit Board Contest. All entries will be displayed at the Broadway Entrance to campus throughout the week of Homecoming, beginning on Monday, October 8,2012 The winning Spirit Boards will be ranked by determining the Top 3 in the following categories: Greek, Student Organizations, and Residence Life.
To show your organization’s support of Texas Tech and spirit for Homecoming 2012, and to allow other students to enjoy your support. Others can recognize your organization’s involvement.
Must be a current Texas Tech registered Student Organization. If you are partnering with another organization, each organization must complete and turn in an application.
There is a MANDATORY meeting on Thursday, September 27th, 2012 at 7 pm immediately following the Parade Meeting, in the Escondido Theater. One (1) representative from each organization must be present; if not, the Spirit Board will be disqualified.
Your assembled Spirit Board needs to be dropped off between 3:00 pm and 4:30pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 to the physical plant. Spirit Boards must be submitted dry (wet paint will not be accepted, so allow time for the board to dry). All Spirit Boards will need to be picked up at Vehicle Rental by 4pm on Monday, October 15,2012 PLEASE RECYCLE!!
Judging will be based on the incorporation of the Homecoming 2012 theme, Red Raider spirit, artistic design, creativity/originality, and the incorporation of the Greek/Student Organization/Residence Life category. There will be three categories (Greek, Student Organization, and Residence Life). The top 3 for each category will be announced during the Pep Rally on October 12th, 2012. A Judging Criteria Sheet is attached for further information.
Spirit Boards must be decorated so they can be placed vertically. Each Spirit Board will be 8’ by 4’. Any spirit board not decorated to these specifications will be disqualified.
Spirit Boards must be made with MDF board obtained by the applicant’s organization. It is your responsibility to provide all materials necessary for your entry. You may purchase a Spirit Board Package of Supplies at Sutherland’s for a discounted rate. Sutherland's is located at 3701 50th Street in Lubbock. A discount purchase sheet will be distributed at the mandatory meeting.
You must take the Sutherland’s Homecoming Package Sheet to Sutherland’s in order to purchase your supplies at the discount rate.
Incorporate your organization’s name in the Spirit Board but keep in mind that this is about Texas Tech spirit. With that said, NO derogatory language or pictures will be accepted. No spirit boards should be decorated in a way that promotes alcohol or drug use, trademark logos, or any other offensive or illegal representation. Spirit Boards not following these standards of good taste will be disqualified. NO glitter or other objects may be used to decorate the Spirit Board. Paint is the only thing that should be used to decorate the board; NO 3-D objects can be used. The Spirit Board MUST be covered with a clear topcoat varnish or painted with a glossy exterior paint for weatherproofing before the spirit board is submitted. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. No outside sponsors are allowed for this event.
A panel of judges chosen from the Tech and Lubbock communities by the Spirit Board Committee, and approved by the Tech Activities Board, will be judging the Spirit Boards. Their decision is final.

Adherence to Theme…………………………....35%

• Social Fraternity/ Sorority
• Residence Life

Student Activities Office 020 (West SUB Basement). If you do not plan on participating in SO-Sing all other applications may be turned in between Friday September 14 and Wednesday September 19 to the Student Activities Office 020 (West SUB Basement)
