ACU Sport a running success

Nov 30, 2018 by Patrick Rebakis

To cap off a great year of running, ACU has had an impressive finish in the UniSport Distance Running results. Within the overall University rankings, ACU Women finished an incredible 9th place on 286 points while ACU Men finished 16th on 544 points. Out of 43 universities these results place ACU highly in the national 2018 UniSport ranks.

In addition to outstanding overall results, ACU Sport has excelled in the quest for high participation with a huge 114 participants taking part in the Melbourne Marathon and 46 in the Blackmores Running Festival in Sydney.  ACU running clubs delivered training programs in the lead up to both Sydney and Melbourne events supporting students and staff to achieve numerous personal bests and delivering on individual training needs. Training sessions were coached by Commonwealth Games Heptathlete, Alysha Burnett, and Cross-country runner Lachlan Herd, who are members of the Elite Athlete and Performer Program (EAPP).

Running is proven to improve cardiovascular fitness and heart health along with overall wellbeing. Recent research conducted by Sport Australia shows that fitter students achieve better academic results and that sport plays a significant role in personal development. Even more reason to get involved in sport and running!
